Where is the Eastern Iowa Sleep Center located?

EISC is located on the second floor of the Physicians' Clinic of Iowa (PCI) building near downtown Cedar Rapids.

Where can I park?

Parking is available outside the main entrance of the PCI building (you can enter through the main entrance) or in the Mercy parking garage on the second level (you can enter the building through the 2nd floor Skywalk).

What do I need to do before arriving for my sleep study?

  • Complete all sleep forms EISC has sent to you
  • The day of the study:
    • Avoid caffeine
    • Avoid napping
    • Bathe, and wash and dry your hair; please do not use gel or conditioners
    • Take your normal daily medications
    • You may otherwise go about your normal daily routine

What do I need to bring for my sleep study?

For your sleep study, you'll need to bring the following items:

  • Photo identification
  • Insurance card(s)
  • Completed sleep forms you received from EISC
  • Pajamas or sleep clothes (clothes should include comfortable top and bottom pieces, women may wear a bra under their pajamas)
  • Toiletries you may need after the study such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.
  • List of current medications, including dosage information
  • Prescription medications you take before bedtime (prescriptions need to be in their original containers)
  • Favorite pillow (optional)
  • Sleep aid your physician may have prescribed for you to take for your sleep study

How do I cancel my study?

To cancel your study, please contact EISC at least 24 hours in advance by calling (319) 362-4433 or (877) 361-4433. A $75 no show fee will be charged if you fail to cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance.

What should I do if I am delayed?

Please call EISC at (319) 362-4433 or (877) 361-4433 if you are delayed or will be late for any reason. If you are more than 30 minutes late for your scheduled time, EISC will be unable to conduct your study as scheduled and will need to reschedule.

Does EISC cancel studies during inclement weather?

EISC may cancel sleep studies if inclement weather occurs. Please check KCRG TV-9 or kcrg.com for cancellation information, which will be listed by 5 p.m. We will contact you on the next business day to reschedule your study.

I have a cold. Do I need to reschedule my study?

If you have a cold or are suffering from another upper respiratory infection on the day of your study, please call EISC for advice at (319) 362-4433 or (877) 361-4433.

What happens the morning after the study?

The study typically ends between 4 and 5 a.m. You will have time to shower. Please feel free to bring whatever you need to get ready for your day, including a change of clothes, if you like.

You may have some minor skin irritation from the electrodes. If this does not quickly resolve, or if you have other concerns, please contact us at (319) 362-4433 or (877) 361-4433.

If you do not plan to drive yourself home or to work, please arrange for someone to pick you up at the end of the study. If you feel too sleepy to drive, please inform the technician so they can arrange alternative transportation for you.

Does EISC have security personnel?

Yes, your security is important to us. Security personnel monitor EISC's grounds, parking lot, and parking garage at night.

How and when do I receive my study results?

We send results directly to the health care provider that ordered your sleep study. You may call your doctor for your results 10 business days after your study. This allows time for the study to be scored, reviewed, interpreted, transcribed, and sent to your provider's office.

What, if any, follow-up with EISC occurs?

A card will be given to you before you leave in the morning by the technician. It will provide instructions on how and when to contact your provider for the results of your study. If you need assistance arranging further care for your sleep problems, please contact us.
